Every number was a life.
Source period / 14 October 2026
OCHA’s 14 October 2026 snapshot records 74,392 reported Palestinian deaths and 175,440 reported injuries in Gaza, citing the Gaza Ministry of Health.
These are reported totals, not an independently verified UN count or a civilian-only count. They do not capture the full toll of missing people or deaths indirectly caused by the destruction of health care and basic services.
Even rainwater meets a permit system.
Source period / 29 November 2017
Amnesty International documents how Military Order 158 required Palestinians to obtain Israeli military permits for new water installations. Its report describes controls over rainwater collection across much of the occupied West Bank and the destruction of community cisterns.
The restriction concerns water infrastructure and permits, including rainwater-harvesting cisterns. Describing it simply as a universal ban on collecting any rainwater misses that important detail.
When the water system is destroyed.
Source period / 17 July 2024
Oxfam’s Water War Crimes investigation found that water available in Gaza had fallen by 94 per cent from pre-war levels, to 4.74 litres per person per day for drinking, cooking and washing.
The organisation attributed the collapse to supply cuts, damaged facilities and restrictions on essential supplies. This figure describes the period assessed in 2024; it is not a measurement of today’s supply.
A home is more than a place to sleep.
Source period / 1948 / 2026
At the UN’s May 2026 Nakba commemoration, Assistant Secretary-General Khaled Khiari recalled that more than 750,000 Palestinians were uprooted in 1948, many forcibly.
Displacement remains a present reality. WHO reported approximately 1.7 million people still displaced in Gaza on 24 September 2026, many living in overcrowded conditions without adequate shelter, water or sanitation.
A classroom, after years of interruption.

UNICEF USA describes children returning to learning after three years without regular formal in-person education. Its October report says nearly 98 per cent of Gaza’s school buildings had been damaged or destroyed.
The response includes more than 200 learning centres, with children attending in shifts. A place to learn also offers routine, contact with friends and support after repeated loss and displacement.
Care cannot wait for reconstruction.
Source period / 24 September 2026
WHO’s Director-General reported that only 19 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals were functioning even partially, with none fully functioning, on 24 September 2026.
Shortages of medicines, equipment and fuel affect cancer treatment, dialysis, maternity care and rehabilitation. WHO called for sustained humanitarian access, medical supplies and the rehabilitation of health facilities.
More aid helps. Hunger has not ended.
Source period / 23 July 2026
OCHA’s account of the July 2026 IPC analysis records improvements following increased humanitarian assistance, while warning that the gains remain fragile.
The IPC projected that 1.4 million people would face Crisis or worse food insecurity between July and December 2026. This is a projection, not a count of people in famine. Reduced aid coverage and uncertain access put those gains at risk.
Occupation is not a title to the land.
Source period / 19 July 2024
In its July 2024 advisory opinion, the International Court of Justice concluded that Israel’s continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory was unlawful and must end as rapidly as possible.
The Court said Israel must cease new settlement activity and evacuate settlers. This was an advisory opinion on state obligations, not a criminal conviction of an individual.
Who gets to tell the story?
Source period / 24 September 2026
The Committee to Protect Journalists documents journalists and media workers killed in the conflict. Its September 2026 review examined 229 deaths recorded across Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory between October 2023 and August 2026.
The review removed, reinstated and reclassified cases as new evidence emerged. Those 229 reviewed cases are not a current Gaza-only death toll; the linked record explains the definitions and changes.
Detention must not mean disappearance.
Source period / 31 July 2024
A July 2024 UN Human Rights Office report described Palestinians detained by Israeli authorities arbitrarily and in secret, alongside reports of torture and other ill-treatment.
Its findings raise questions about access to lawyers, contact with families and effective judicial oversight. The source documents the reporting period and distinguishes testimonies and reported abuses from judicial findings.
Hindutva, Zionism and the alliances between.
Source period / 2023–2025 sources
Christophe Jaffrelot and Kalrav Joshi trace affinities between Hindutva and Zionism in ideas about ethnic nationhood, territory and national identity. Their analysis places the contemporary alignment in a longer history of nationalist thought.
The state relationship is documented separately: on 4 November 2025, India and Israel signed a memorandum to deepen defence, industrial and technological cooperation, according to Israel’s defence ministry.
Public advocacy networks are another strand. Reporting on a September 2023 Hindu American Foundation–American Jewish Committee event describes a stated goal of strengthening India–Israel–US ties. The report describes how interreligious outreach is connected to the organisations’ wider goal of promoting relations between the three countries.
