Colour pairings & usage tips

Use these colours.

Choose the measured light-dark pair for the main reading area, then reserve a more colourful swatch for a pull quote, rule or illustration. Swatch order does not assign paper and ink roles.

Text & contrast.

An accent used as a heading or link needs its own check against the page surface. Recheck smaller secondary text rather than relying on the main reading pair.

A pairing to start with.

In Raspberry Broadsheet, #200F17 against #D3B2C3 has a contrast ratio of 9.57:1. This pair meets the WCAG AA contrast threshold for normal text. This checks opaque colours only; other pairings, transparency and gradients need their own checks.

The five swatches span 20–80% OKLCH lightness. Try different colour roles in the palette generator.
